A message from Stu and Kay Takeuchi

When Bill was the Vice President for Budget and Finance at the University of Colorado, he served with Stuart "Stu" Takeuchi. Today, Stu sent the following message:

Dear Bill and Betty:

Kay and I are saddened by the news of Bill's health. At the same time, Bill's approach to this stage looks like his approach to the work that we knew, i.e., looking at it in a straightforward way and letting people know.

While much will be said of Bill's contributions to the University of Colorado as well as to the federal service and other universities, Kay and I remember very well how kind and supportive Bill and Betty were when I first became a senior administrator at CU-Boulder. That experience can be like a "stranger in a strange land," but Bill and Betty extended their friendship and advice that made that transition as smooth as possible.

For me, Bill showed me what it was like to be a public servant, giving the interests of the institution the top priority and how it is possible, indeed necessary, to behave with honesty and integrity. That was and is a gift I will always cherish.
